Jeremy Dyson gets bitten by vampires

Since it is Halloween, Jeremy Dyson has an article considering the fear factor in versions of Dracula and I’m definitely there with him on Max Schreck as the scariest of vampire of them all. For me it s the animalism of the character, that the vampire is closer to a bat than a suave, alluring [...]

Re-writing films via text

Wired has this piece on an old idea made really quite new. Paul Notzold, a New York artist, has rigged up a projector so that random individuals can send a text which is added to a balloon on which ever film stills he has playing (the Wored piece had Night of the Living Dead). I [...]

Beowulf in 3 dimensions?

Wired has a piece on the return of 3d in the forthcoming Beowulf movie (but the trailer for the normal version looks good). I’m really not sure that 3d is going to take off though unless the  cost of the projectors comes down for cinemas.

Stardust - the fairy tale which sort of behaves

I saw Stardust film on Friday night pretty much straight after work and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was glad that it did not attempt to be the book which would have been disastrous but captured the essence of it instead.

David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promise

The Independent has an interview with David Cronenberg about his new film, Eastern Promises, and the biographical parts of his films. I’m not going to say that I’ve ever fully understood his films but its great to see a director feted for being his own person.

Machinima shorts on the BBC

Tracy Harwood, the Manager of the Machinima Festival Europe 07, has an article on machinima which shows some of here favourites. I’ve looked at the form before but decided to leave to those who are good at it. The classic Red versus Blue, an episodic story about two soldiers on opposing sides questioning their raison [...]

Disappearances of Golden Compass endings and Oxford

BridgetotheStars.net has a message from Chris Weitz about the change to the ending the first HDM film. It appears the final three chapters of the first book are going to be included in the next film for narrative sense so that one film has a good ending and the second a good beginning.
I suppose it [...]

Golden Compass trailer online

FirstShowing.net have the full trailer for Northern Lights The Golden Compass online (around 3 minutes long so it may be slow) and it looks stunning. The crafting that has gone into the Alethiometer and the CGI work on the the bears and daemons is wonderful. I’m just hoping that it wil live up to my [...]

Detente in Middle Earth?

Entertainment Weekly are reporting that there may be a small détènte between New Line and Peter Jackson about the filming of the Hobbit, though not no actual progress. Jackson still has to deal with the live action TinTin and another project. I’m not 100% sure but I believe there are other territorial/rights issues as well [...]
