Charlies Stross has a great essay on the impossibility of one of sf’s great dreams - colonising space. Whilst Stephen Hawking has said that this is fundamental to the survival of the race, the practicalities make it impossible.
As ever Stross is clear and persuasive.

Making Light has a piece on FanLib, a new company whose pitch to industry is to set up a site where users can write fan fiction (within strict guidelines) and so be harnessed, it appears, as viral [...]
I’ve just seen this hilarious (and if you reach the end potentially mind-boggling) crossover idea pitch on the Making Light blog. Go on, folks. Its certainly made my afternoon.
