Should creators necessarily listen to fans and adjust creations according to comments?
io9 (via Holly Black) has a piece on the art of fan husbandry in response to Russell Davies comments that he doesn’t want to listen to fans so breaking a cardinal rule – don’t insult or flatter them. To be fair, it does appear that it was a comment about not having a fan board on the Doctor Who website and it makes a certain amount of sense in my view.
My pet hate is series that go on too long with the same characters and settings. There are some authors who I used to like but now cannot read because, well, I’m not interested any more. Similarly I love the world of Bas-Lag but I’m glad that China is writing other things at the moment (as far as I can gather!)
