The Guardian posts updated fairy tales

Over the weekend, the Guardian ran three fairy tales written by Hilary Mantel (a great tale that reminds me of an early version of Riquet of the Tuft), Audrey Niffeneger (a quite transforming tale) and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (somewhat more of the expected traditional tale).

To my mind these seem a little tame in wake of Jane Yolen’s haunting Briar Rose and the Angela Carter and Anne Sextron retellings but its always good to see the tales revisited once in a while and to find new authors.
