Beowulf too scary?

Angelina Jolie has commented that the forthcoming Beowulf movie that it is too scary for a 12A audience.

Now I’ve not seen it yet as it opens on Friday but it smacks slightly of a molly coddling attitude towards children, an increasing wrapping them up in cotton wool. Is fiction too scary for them or its it in the eye of the beholder (tbh, I was happily reading any horror I could lay my hands on at around the age of 12 like most people I know)? I hope that this has the effect of getting more people to engage with fantastic fiction or even the original poem (Heaney’s version is wonderful).
