Is the short story ailing? No, just a little dusty

Jeff Vandermeer’s Ecstatic Days has a link to this essay by Stephen King on the American short story and his perception that it is largely being read by writers and contributors. Perhaps the short story is not as visible as it once was but the plethora of anthologies and reviews suggest that the audience is larger then other writers.
