This czech won’t bounce – Jan Svankmajer

The Guardian have a piece on Jan Svankmajer’s work as the short film DVD collection is released by the BFI.

Svankmajer’s work is not to everybody’s taste – dark allegories about the abuse of power – but his art is superb and makes the viewer think. I sort of think of him as the puppeteer version of Einstuerzende Neubauten – often referred to but rarely seen and appreciated (and yes  I love their work as well as have seen them live). Marina Warner really gets under the skin of the man and the art in this enlightening essay and I’m sort of preparing to have a day at home soon devoted to watching this collection.
