Yatterings

This latest season has been a  bit patchy to my mind but the current two parter is a bit of a barnstormer. The  Doctor has become human to escape the Family and is living in 1913.

Perhaps some of this is wish fulfillment, an experiment in what happens if we make the Doctor human. There is some fantastic social observation with the children and the socal classes. What really stands out though are the scarecrows and the Family themselves. To some degree they work by lack of explanation and are just observed well enough to deliver the creeps. Small clockwork movements and the shambling gait are unnerving.

Its good to see the creators thinking about new monsters and trying things out rather than keep on relying upon the Daleks and cybermen.
