Nesbit and UnLunDun

In a conversation with China Miéville a while ago, around Looking for Jake time, he mentioned that he was a fan of E Nesbit which is unsurprising. What did surprise me was when I got reading UnLundun that she wasn’t mentioned in the influences.

The most Nesbit part is where Deeba climbs up the tower of books into the city which seems a direct take off Magic City where Nesbit’s protagonists imagine themselves creating a city of books which come alive for them. It seems a little obvious to say books as the gateway to the imagination but Nesbit is the first writer to actively use this in her fiction and to allow give children the leeway to do this.

Anyhow I’ve started taking photographs to illustrate the climb and the view of the city as an aide memoire.
