Daleks are the scariest monster in Doctor Who according to a BBC poll. They are coming back in the latest episode for a two parter which sees the Doctor out of his depth apparently.
Whist I like the Daleks and the cybermen, it would be good to see the creators trying something a little different rather [...]

Cormac McCarthy’s The Road has won the Pulitzer prize in a story from the Guardian. A dystopian novel leavened by some wonderful prose, it got Clute all hot and bothered when it didn’t appear on the Clarke award shortlist (a slight problem of it not being submitted scuppered its chances).
I wonder how much prizes like [...]
An article on the BBC says that the corporation is to run a trial on releasing its archive with a view, one hopes, to releasing the whole archive to everybody via Freeview or IPTV.
In my wilder dreams, I hope that the BBC will allow free access to all so that users can either download or [...]

Ian Rankin, according to the Scotsman , is taking over the Hellblazer book for a mini-series. I’m hoping that we’ll get the to the darker heart of Constantine with him that Mike Carey had. I’m not entirely convinced by Denise Mina’s solid run, it felt a litle forced.

What started you writing?
I have always loved to read, and when I was in college I began to write poetry and then short stories, just to see if I could. I felt the urge to try it.
I gather that you lived in Washington DC and Nepal. Did these inform the writing [...]
Many thanks for your time.
You’re welcome, and thank you for having me on your blog.
You contributed a short story to the GlorifyingTerrorism anthology but you are not really known as a short story writer. What made you contribute?
What made me contribute was political agreement with an appeal from the editor, Farah Mendlesohn! This [...]
