Yatterings

I’m a little tempted to call this post Harry Potter and the Pot of Cash but that’d just be catty.

The BBC have posted pictures from the forthcoming film on their site. I have to confess that the books are growing on me as fantasies but mainly for comfort reading (or viewing in the films’ case). There is something vaguely cotton blanket like with their essential school days fantasy, kind of like Blyton’s Mallory Towers books. To be fair you can see JK Rowling growing as a writer and I’d love to know if she read these to her children as she wrote them and tried them out on them, like Baum, Grahame and so many other children’s authors.  

They can’t hold a candle to the Pullman books though in my view in terms of style and depth. Now there is a film I’m eagerly waiting to see what they do to the book.
