David Pescovitz has linked to this intriguing article with Jane McGonigal in the San Francicso Weekly. She is working on Alternate Reality Games, such as World Without Oil, which aim to harness the power of the larger community to begtin thinking about real world issues.

Literature has been doing this for a while and the latest manifesto to do so is the Mundane SF (blog and nascent definition here) movement. But the larger picture (and the optimist in me) wants to jump up and down about these games (even though I know I’ll never join in - only so many hours in the day) becasue rather than proselytise, they offer an opportunity to model the possibilities and interract with them.
