Does Britain Matter?

One of the questions posed to Write Fantastic was one which I thought would be simple and interesting – can the Matter of Britain be revived? It intrigued me that Arthur was immedatialy pounced on (but yes I could probably live without reading much more cod-Arthurian stuff). John Masefield’s Box of Delights deals with the legend in a primal fashion – almost a restoration – which appears to have been watered down. Is it a product of his time since he was writing shortly after the first World War? I suspect that has something to do with it.

So can the Matter of Britain be potent once again? Perhaps, but like the legend of the Sleeping King, only once the country is in need.
