Okay this has little to do with sf and genre strictly but anybody who is interested in Mary Gentle’s writing really must visit this link to Rosicrucian war machines from 1626: Robert Fludd which I got from those sorted folk at Boing Boing. It is excellent that the basis for the counter-factual history Gentle has been unpeeling is being published for all. I did a course on the history of physics and astronomy as part of my first year and stuff like this was ignored as were the philosophical aspects to the science.
