Nine Inch Nails

NIN’s juggernaut rolls on through the Internet on this site, Symphony of Noise, which has MP3 of the forthcoming album and a link to the Survivalism video. Anyhow two things. Firstly , this strikes me a curiously apt take on Charles Stross’s comments about American writing about the near future and the pessimism thereof – just follow the links and you’ll want to stay on one or two for a bit as MP3s start in the background. It’s a claustrophobic experience but one which is deeply necessary to confront. Rather than set the concept (yup, this is a concept album apparently) in the far future, Reznor butts heads with it directly. Its a very 1984 vision though and I wonder if this will ever change.
Secondly this is an awesome marketing campaign for the album, Year Zero, since it isn’t out until July 7th (7/7/7).
